All of our doctoral research projects are supervised by mixed teams of world-leading researchers, with members of staff from across our partner organisations involved in each.

A number of tags are also used help you to navigate to the projects that been match what you are looking to study.
Prospective candidates are advised to review and study the available doctoral research projects carefully before applying and to contact the named supervisor (s) for further information.
IAPETUS’ postgraduate studentships are tenable for up to 3.5 years, depending on the doctoral research project the student is studying and provides the following package of financial support:
Part-time award-holders are funded for seven years and receive a maintenance grant at 50% of the full-time rate.
All studentships will commence in September/October 2018, except in exceptional circumstances.
All applicants need to meet NERC’s eligibility criteria to be considered for an IAPETUS studentship and these are detailed in the current RCUK studentship terms and conditions.
IAPETUS is only able to consider applications from Home/European Union candidates. International candidates are not eligible to be considered and where an candidate from another EU country has not been resident in the UK for 3 years or more prior to the commencement of their studies with IAPETUS, they will only be eligible for a fees-only studentship.

To apply for an IAPETUS studentship you need to select the doctoral project you wish to study and then apply to the partner organisation that is hosting the project.
When applying to your chosen research organisation you will need to complete their online postgraduate application form and state that you wish to be considered for an IAPETUS studentships when prompted how you intend to fund your postgraduate studies and highlight the specific doctoral research project that you wish to be considered for, quoting the doctoral research project’s reference (which are quoted in each doctoral research project’s brief) where possible.

If you have already submitted your online application form and not added that you want to be considered for an IAPETUS studentship, please contact your prospective Department/School to inform them that you wish to be considered for an award.
The deadline for submitting your application to your chosen partner organisation is 19 January 2018 (5 pm GMT) at the latest.
Please note that a number of our Departments/Schools may set earlier internal deadlines for progressing the assessment and selection of their candidates. Where these additional arrangements are in place these will be detailed. Where an earlier deadline is applied by a Department/School these should be followed by interested candidates where possible; however, all Department/School will be continuing to accept and review applications up to IAPETUS’ applicant deadline of Friday, 19 January 2018 (5 pm GMT).
Your prospective Department/School will review your application and it will decide whether to put you forward for consideration by the IAPETUS’ Studentships Panel
IAPETUS’ Studentships Panel will be considering applications in late February 2018 and we anticipate notifying candidates whether they have been successful by Friday, 23 February 2018.
